Crack pipe. What you want is a beetle, not a super beetle.

That's what my buddy said a while ago. Late 60's flat windshield.

I'm trying to remember but I think the beetle went IRS starting in 67 so those would probably handle a bit better. However, the fenders before the 67 looked better. Many years ago I wanted to get an IRS beetle and swap to the earlier fenders.

Agree'd!! I dislike anything after 69' Beetle wise (s0 69 is likable, not 70+), but I'm fine 70+ baja's, because Id rather one of them be turned into a baja.

What's the difference? Is it looks or something fundamental. I thought they were all pretty much the same.

The biggest difference between the beetle and the super beetle is the front suspension. The beetle used a torsion bars for the front suspension and the super beetle used struts. The torsion bar setup is preferred for lowing or lifting, since it's easier to modify. Also, after 73 the super beetles got the ugly curved windshield.

I see, so Super does not mean better in the case of the beetle.

I suppose it'd depend on who you ask, but from what I remember the super beetle is the red-headed step child of the air cooled VW community.
